A grocery shopper noticed something unusual after hard-boiling brown eggs in vinegar—much of the eggshell’s brown pigment peeled away, revealing a light tan underneath. The effect was so pronounced that the shell could be rubbed clean with fingers, leaving only the natural color. The discovery raises questions about whether the eggs were dyed or treated in some way before sale. Online discussions are exploring whether this is a common occurrence or an isolated case tied to the boiling process.
https://imgur.com/a/OnCITTi Bought brown eggs in a US grocery store, hard-boiled with some vinegar in the water, and when done a lot of the brown was peeling off. By rubbing with my fingers I can get all of the brown off (bottom right egg in the image), leaving it just light tan. Maybe I’m an idiot but I really don’t think I have ever seen this before. Are they died or painted or something? submitted by /u/ZzzzzPopPopPop [link] [comments]
