A home cook navigating a shared kitchen faces the challenge of downsizing a collection of pots while maintaining versatility for everyday meals. With a focus on rice, potatoes, and vegetables—along with occasional parboiling and rare soups—they must decide which pieces to keep from a mix of large, medium, and small pots, some featuring volume notches. The decision hinges on balancing depth, diameter, and specialized uses, such as the thick-bottomed options and the existing cast iron skillets already in use. Advice on streamlining the collection could help maximize storage without sacrificing functionality for common cooking tasks.

Hello everyone. I'm an amateur home cook who just moved in together with my partner and I'm in charge of the cooking. I'm taking over her former flatmate's kitchen and I'm having trouble deciding which of the pot collection here to keep. Here's a list of the pots in question: * Large pot 1: 23cm diameter. 14cm deep. Thick bottom. Volume notches. About 5L total volume. * Large pot 2: 29cm diameter. 7cm deep. Thick bottom. Volume notches. About 4L total volume. * Large pot 3: 24.5cm diameter. 13.5cm deep. * Medium pot 1: 20.5cm diameter. 8.5cm deep. Thick bottom. * Medium pot 2: 21cm Diameter. 12cm deep. * Large pan: 29cm diameter. 5cm deep. 27cm long handle. * Small pot 1: 16cm Diameter - 6.5cm deep. Thicker bottom. * Small pot 2: 16cm Diameter - 8.5cm deep. * Small pot 3: 16cm Diameter - 10cm deep. Volume notches inside. Max vol about 1.5L. Here's a link with pictures for anyone interested: https://imgur.com/a/xvBDMcJ I already have a 26cm and a 16cm diameter cast iron skillets that I'm very happy with. I cook mostly rice, potatoes, veggies. Mostly on the drier side. I sometimes parboil things for my stews, but those I cook in a big pressure cooker I have. I rarely cook soups but every once in a while I do for my partner. Given the info I offered, I'd really appreciate advice on how to trim down the pot stock, because we need to free up a bit more space in here. submitted by /u/DvSzil [link] [comments]
