"Tuna Steak Takedown: Seared or Fully Cooked? A Byerly's shopper is seeking advice on the best way to prepare their tuna steak, with opinions divided online over whether to sear it and leave the middle raw or cook it through. The debate is sparked by concerns over food safety, as the shopper inadvertently thawed the tuna steak for 7 hours in its packaging, leaving it still partially frozen. Now, they're wondering if it's safe to cook it as intended, or if they should opt for a fully cooked approach. With food safety guidelines often conflicting with culinary traditions, readers are weighing in with their expertise to help the shopper decide on the perfect cooking method for their tuna steak."
I bought a Tuna steak at Byerly’s and have been seeing mixed thoughts online as to whether it can/should be seared and left raw in the middle or fully cooked. I started thawing it this morning but stupidly didn’t notice it said to take it out of the packaging before doing so. It was thawing for about 7 hours and is still pretty frozen. I took it out of the packaging, patted it with some paper towels, and loosely wrapped in plastic wrap to finish thawing. Any ideas on whether this should be fully cooked or do you all think I can just sear it on both sides leaving it raw in the middle? Thanks!
