A homemade cleaning method involving baking powder and lemon left a wooden chopping board with red stains after being left untreated for hours, raising concerns about food safety. The user, who applied the mixture to remove onion odors but forgot to rinse it off, is seeking advice on whether the board remains usable and how to restore it without sanding. An attached image shows the discoloration, while the post invites others to share their experiences or solutions. Experts and fellow users may weigh in on whether the residue poses a risk or can be safely removed.
I tried cleaning my wooden chopping board with baking powder and lemon because it was smelling of onions. Unfortunately, thanks to adhd, I forgot to clean it out after 5 minutes. Two hours later, I have red spots on the board. Anyone know what these spots are, is the board still safe to use, and is there any way of cleaning out the spots short of sanding them out? Thanks! Here's an image of the spots if that's useful: https://ibb.co/4Z82sVL9 submitted by /u/fiddlestickier [link] [comments]
