A home cook is searching for a classic non-alcoholic eggnog recipe that closely matches their long-used method, which involves whisking together standard ingredients like egg yolks, milk, cream, sugar, and spices, then gently heating the mixture to just 180°F before serving hot. The recipe they recall does not include whisking in the cream off the heat or chilling before serving, distinguishing it from some modern variations. While they’re open to trying new versions, their goal is to recreate the warm, freshly made version they’ve enjoyed in the past. The post also mentions a separate preference for aged, alcoholic eggnog using a trusted recipe.

I love making egg nog but I seem to have lost the recipe that I've been using regularly in the past. It does not contain alcohol and pretty much involves just whisking everything together and cooking it gently. I feel like the recipe (or perhaps reddit comments) advised to go no further than 180F, and I feel like that's as much as I liked to cook it. The ingredients, to my memory, were quite standard: egg yolks, milk, 33% cream, nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar, vanilla. https://www.lecremedelacrumb.com/eggnog-pancakes/#wprm-recipe-container-63365 I feel like this recipe is quite close to what I remember, but in my old recipe I definitely was NOT whisking in the cream off the heat at the end. And I served mine hot straight away, not chilled for cold service. Please give me any recipes that fit my description! I'm not against trying a new one, but I want to get back to what I was cooking as close as possible because I really loved it. Thank you! P.S. I also love alcoholic and cold egg nog, and for that I use trusty Alton Brown's aged egg nog recipe; this year I will try to go for 2 months! submitted by /u/quivverquivver [link] [comments]
