A home cook seeks advice on crafting a comforting yet spooky Halloween-themed meal for their elderly grandmother, blending tradition with seasonal flavors. They’re considering a smooth pumpkin soup and a Halloween-inspired meat pie—though unsure if such a recipe exists—while avoiding overly chunky fillings that might be difficult to eat. The meal would include a salad and a lighter fall dessert, steering clear of carrot cake after previous failed attempts. The post invites suggestions for alternative main dishes and dessert ideas that balance coziness with a festive twist.
Hello there! This is my first post on r/cooking and I hope I can get some help and that my post is appropriate for this sub. We don't really do Halloween in my country but I wanted to surprise my grandma with me cooking (she's getting old but still does the chores when we're visiting). The day I will do that will be Halloween so I was thinking of doing something very comforting, cozy but with a spooky twist. Immediately thought of pumpkin soup and meat pie, though idk if that's a thing? If it is, I found this video : Halloween meat pie but there's no recipe, and other meat pies I've came across don't have such a smooth filling, but chunkier pieces of meat and carrots, which is harder to chew im gonna guess. (Too much chewing can be a problem) This would be served with salad? The pumpkin soup is mandatory in this meal, it's one of my favorite and we always have soup as a starter when it's fall and winter. If it isn't really a thing, what else can I do as the main dish? Also, do you guys have any idea of a lighter dessert, still kinda fall themed? Please note my previous carrot cake attempts were messed up, so maybe not that 😅 Thx reddit ! submitted by /u/Lily_OfTheValleyy [link] [comments]
