My son has just moved into his first apartment. I'm going to give him a book of recipes that he likes and that are easy (for a group setting out on their own, who may have limited cooking experience), and I'd like to include some tips/guidance at the beginning. The format will be: cover/tips/guidance, then printed recipes from their original source (i.e., prints from the NYT Cooking site and others). This way they can add recipes as they find new ones they like. I'd love some feedback on my opening document: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1X47zx3J43j-I8-Yv3ptYwBLFbA6mHm2RMGRyTNKcX2o/edit?usp=sharing I've looked through this sub and pulled a bunch of ideas, but I'm sure I'm missing a lot. What should I include in this? (Remembering the audience is first-time cooks living on their own who likely have mixed enthusiasm for actually cooking every day) Basically, I want to ensure that the content isn’t too dense… Feel free to leave comments right on the doc, or here, and I will merge in what I can. I’m also wide open to recipe suggestions; I’ve collected my son’s favorites that I make. My focus now is on simple recipes with common ingredients that result in leftovers that are good to take to work for lunches, etc. Some recipes I’ve got so far: Alfredo Sauce Baked Ziti Buttermilk-Brined Roast Chicken Cheesy Baked Orzo With Marinara Cheesy Breakfast Egg and Polenta Casserole Chile Crisp Fettuccine Alfredo Craig Claiborne's Beef Stew Extra-Crispy Parmesan-Crusted Roasted Potatoes Italian Wedding Soup With Turkey Meatballs Macaroni Mongolian Beef New Orleans BBQ Shrimp Turmeric-Black Pepper Chicken With Asparagus Certainly not all of these recipes fit my criteria above; some are recipes he's requested, and some are just easy to make and good for leftovers. There are three of them, and I'm not sure if they're cooking/eating together or if he's cooking/eating on his own. I gave him a 2 qt All-Clad saucepan and a 10-inch Lodge deep skillet, and I plan on gifting him a good chef's knife. submitted by /u/ipa_cow [link] [comments]
