TDLR: In General when do you add stuff for flavouring couscous Herbs, Lemon Juice, Garlic A flavoured olive oil Extra edit: Potential for homemade flavouring packets If wanting protein, but needing to reheat at school or work, should I store and reheat it separate? Tofu, and Ground Beef, Pork, and Lamb are thoughts Hi, I'm a college kid trying to get more independent and one of the things I'm trying to figure out right now is some quick ideas for meals and I've ended up on couscous. I'm really more interested in playing around with my food than following traditional recipes (at least for this, because I have made the boxed stuff a lot), so my question for you is, I suppose in general when and how do you add stuff to the couscous for flavouring. I know the bigger add ins, like cheese, nuts, and raisins, are added at the end, mixing them in after it's done cooking. But what about herbs, spices, Garlic(chopped, minced or whole) and stuff like lemon juice? Edit here: Also, there's an olive oil and balsamic vinegar place that has flavoured olive oil that I was interested in playing around with for this. That would probably be best to be added after cooking right? I was also trying to think of ways to add protein to this dish and how best to reheat it if I end up bringing it to school or work. I was thinking keeping it separate may be best? I genuinely don't quite know why that's what my gut says so I'm asking here. Some protein I was thinking of trying with this were, ground beef, pork and possibly lamb, but also maybe tofu. Edit(i have one more question): Also! Would it be an idea for me to make little seasoning packets of my own? I could make just a huge pot of couscous, portion it, and go with whatever extras/flavours I want during a single day? Now, this is an idea that slightly changes depending on the guidelines you give me about the general guide to flavouring I asked about above {but it was why I asked about the flavoured olive oil because that would be fun to play with :) } submitted by /u/Junior_Blueberry6682 [link] [comments]
