A rich, savory dish combines caramelized onions and mushrooms in a creamy, cheesy sauce for a hearty toast topping. The recipe begins with butter, garlic, and sliced onions cooked until deeply browned, then pairs them with mushrooms softened under a lid before blending with Worcestershire sauce, cream, Dijon mustard, and thyme. Just before serving, shredded Gruyere or cheddar is folded into the mixture, which is then spooned over crispy sourdough slices. The result is a comforting, flavorful meal perfect for a cozy meal.
